Source: Find A Grave: Friedens Evangelical Lutheran Church was originally known as the Old Northkill Church established about 1745. Samuel Filbert and Gottfried Fiedler each donated land for the construction of the church. The congregation held services in member’s homes since about 1730.

Burials in the cemetery behind this church have been documented by the church. A spreadsheet has been obtained from them and all legible tombstones have been added as of Fall 2020. No additional memorials should be added at this location.

One must presume the Churchyard became full and land nearby (now along Washington Street) was used for burials. This cemetery was sold to Saint Thomas Cemetery in 1901.

In 1867, Jacob Haag sold land to the Lutheran Congregation from the Old Northkill Church. That cemetery bears his name, Haags Cemetery, and is across Washington Street from Saint Thomas Cemetery.

Saint Thomas, Haags and Friedens cemeteries in Bernville were photographed in Fall 2020 and memorials were reviewed for correct placement. They are frequently confused with each other. Please look at all 3 cemeteries before adding a new record.
