  Obituary found in the Bluffton News Banner, October 16, 1946, Bluffton, Indiana page 1 column 2. MRS. BERTHA DERR DIES NEAR MARKLE Mrs Bertha Alice Haiflich Derr, 80, died at 8:50 p.m. Tuesday at her home three miles northeast of Markle. She had been ill since January and death was attributed to complications. The decedent was born Feb. 13, 1866 in Rockcreek township, Wells county, a daughter of Joseph and Parentha (sic Parintha) Beall[sic Beil] Haiflich. Her marriage to Landis Derr took place Dec. 25, 1889. Mrs Derr was a member of the Uniondale Methodist church. Surviving besides the husband are three daughters, Mrs. Wilfred Brown and Mrs. Clarence McAfee, both of Rockcreek township, and Mrs Clarence Platt, northeast of Markle; a brother, Emery Haiflich, of Roanoke, and six grandchildren. A daughter, Cressie Derr, is deceased. THe body will be taken this afternoon from the McGuffey funeral home in Markle to the residence where funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon Rev. Edwin N. Rosier pastor of the Uniondale Methodist church, will officiate. Burial will be in the Horeb cemetery.
