  The Miller County Autogram, December 1987 Retired educator and school administrator, Asa M. Mayfield, 84, of 222 N. Locust St., Eldon, died Sunday, Dec. 13, 1987 at the University of Missouri Hospital and Clinics in Columbia. He was born June 15, 1903 in Iberia to L.J. and Dora M. Myers Mayfield. On June 3, 1931 he was married in Atchison, Kan. to Alma Kallenbach, who survives at the home. Mr. Mayfield was a graduate of Tuscumbia High School. He received his A.B. and B.S. degrees from Park College and his M.A. from the University of Missouri. He also attended the University of Oklahoma at Norman and Stillwater. He taught for two years in Miller County and eight years in Tipton. He also taught in the Oklahoma public schools, including 40 years at El Reno, Okla. where he served as a junior high principal and later as an assistant superintendent of schools. He also taught summer school classes at the Oklahoma City University and El Reno College. Mr. Mayfield held an honorary doctor of arts degree from El Reno College. He was a member of the Modern Woodmen of America, the Oklahoma Education Association. The Eldon Retired Teachers, the Eldon Lions Club and the Eldon First Christian Church. Surviving him in addition to his wife are a brother, Bert Mayfield of St. Louis; and four sisters, Blanche Haines and Icie Fendorf of Kansas City, Kan., and Eileen Humphrey and Lois Adcock of Leawood, Kan. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Phillips Funeral Home in Eldon with the Rev. Ronald Crooks officiating. Burial will be in the Tuscumbia Cemetery.
