- Arlene Elmira (Zerbe) Harle, age 101, died on Thursday, August 24, 2023 at Brookdale Union Park, Monroe, NC. Arlene was born on June 30, 1922, to Edward G. Zerbe and Sallie (Noecker) Zerbe in Bern Township, Berks Country, PA.
Arlene married John Frank Harle on June 5, 1948. They were married until his death in 2001. Arlene was a hardworking homemaker and worked on the family farm near Leesport, PA, until it was sold in 1977. She and John moved to Bernville, PA, where they spent many of their retirement years. Sometime after his passing, Arlene moved to Monroe, NC, in 2010 with her son Brian and his wife Harriette. At her death, she was residing at Brookdale Union Park in Monroe.
Arlene loved her home state of Pennsylvania. She grew up speaking Pennsylvania Dutch, and learned English when she went to school at a one room schoolhouse. She enjoyed Pennsylvania Dutch food, playing cards, and watching her 'stories' (i.e., soap operas).
Arlene is survived by her son, Brian Harle of Monroe, NC; her daughter, Donna (William) Hucker of Alamo, TX; grandchildren Jana Marie Hucker, Sally Ann Hucker, and Martin Ryan Britt; and three great-grandchildren.
Arlene is preceded in death by her dear husband, John, and two brothers, Irwin James Zerbe and Nevin Joseph Zerbe.
Funeral services will be at 11 AM on Wednesday, September 6, with visitation starting at 10 AM, at Salem (Belleman's) Church, 3540 Bellemans Church Rd., Mohrsville, PA. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery (Next To Salem Belleman's Church) of Centre Twp. immediately following the service.
