- Robert D. Jones, 78, of Douglassville passed away at home after a lengthy illness on Saturday.
Bob was born in Pottstown and was preceded in death by his parents, G. Burton and Elizabeth (Longaker) Jones. His siblings included a brother Fred and a sister, Marian Moore, both also deceased, and a surviving sister, Mildred Casner.
Bob graduated from Pottstown High School and after retiring from Bethlehem Steel and Grace Mines he continued to work as a self-employed carpenter and craftsman. He was a charter and founding member of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Pottstown and proudly designed and constructed the fellowship's building.
Bob lived a rich and full life and pursued many interests and passions. He enjoyed music and singing including big band and Cole Porter tunes, classic movies, loved tasting wine and chose Kistler Chardonnay as his clear favorite, reading astronomy and photography. He was an environmentalist and loved exploring Planet Earth with his beloved and devoted wife of 57 years, Peggy, and whether motorcycling along the Blue Ridge Parkway or discovering new areas of the world by cruise ship, he captured these memories in beautiful photographs.
He was a loving husband, a kind and nurturing father and role model, a humble man and an inspiration to everyone whose life he touched. He will be deeply missed by his friends and family.
Surviving family members in addition to his widow, Peggy A. (Strickland) Jones, include a son, Bob, Jr. and his wife Maria of Reading, a daughter, Lori Forstein and her husband, Eddie of Princeton, NJ, a daughter, Lisa Woodward and her husband, Tom and their daughter, Stevee of Mohnton, an aforementioned sister, Mildred Casner and her husband, Paul of Pottstown, a brother in law and sister in law, Tom and Julie Strickland of St. Augustine, Florida and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial gathering to celebrate Bob's life will be held at 1:00 pm, on Saturday, November 22, 20008 at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Pottstown, 1565 South Keim Street, Pottstown, PA 19465.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Pottstown at the above address, or to a charity of your choice.
Arrangements are by the Schumacher & Benner Funeral Home & Crematory, at 359 King St. in Pottstown, PA.
The services will start at the church.
