  Ruth Ann McCoin, 88, of Del Ray Oaks died Tuesday at Silas B. Hayes Army Hospital after a long illness. Born on Jan. 3, 1901, in Alexander S.D., Mrs. McCoin had been a Peninsula resident since 1954. She was a Girl Scout and USO volunteer in Mitchell, S.D., and later was a Red Cross volunteer at a U. S. Army Hospital in Hawaii during the Korean War. Mrs. McCoin was a member of the American Legion for more than 50 years and held many offices in Auxiliary Post 41 in Monterey. She was also active in Girl Scout work. She is survived by her husband John; two sons, John of Sacramento and Donald of Eads, Colo; a daughter, Elaine Brooks of Shelby, N.C.; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. in El Estero Chapel at the Mission Mortuary. Burial will follow at Mission Memorial Park. The Herald (Monterey): Feb. 16, 1989 Page 4
