- Leon G. Strause, 88, of West Lawn, passed away Thursday, February 1, 2018 at the Reading Hospital. He was the husband of Marie T. (Feairheller) Strause, with whom he would have shared 67 years of marriage on April 21st.
Born in Mt. Pleasant, he was a son of the late Elmer D. and Lizzie B. (Dickinson) Strause.
He was an Army Veteran, having served during the Korean Era.
He was a member of Bern Reformed UCC, Leesport.
He was a graduate of Reading High School, Philadelphia Institute of Barbering, and Bryland School of Beauty Culture. He owned and operated Knotty Pine Barber Shop for over 50 years, and worked at Carpenter Technologies for 17 ½ years retiring in 1994.
He was a life member of the American Legion Post 635, Shillington. He was also a member of NRA, Evergreen Country Club, Polish-American Heritage Association of Berks County, Herndon Fire Company, Victor Emmanuel, the West Lawn Quoiting Assoc. and the 523 M.P. Reunion Association.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Francis G. Strause, husband of Nan, Sunbury, and Dr. Karl D. Strause, husband of Shufang, Ithaca, NY; a daughter, LaVon M., widow of Joseph Heft, Myerstown; five grandchildren, Samuel, Krisandra, Megan, Tyler, and Michael; and two great grandchildren. Cora and Scarlett. He was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Kissinger.
Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, Feb 7th, at Bern Reformed UCC, 3196 Bernville Rd., Leesport. Visitation with the family will be held from 6-8:00 PM, Tuesday, Feb. 6th, at Lamm & Witman Funeral Home, 243 W. Penn Ave., Wernersville, and 10-11:00 AM. Wednesday, at the church. Burial will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
