- Linda Marie Gates, 73, of Womelsdorf, passed away in the evening hours Tuesday, August 1, 2017, of natural causes in the Reading Hospital.
She was the wife of Richard "Dick" A. Gates. Born July 5, 1944, in Wyomissing, she was a daughter of the late Ray E. Swope Sr. and Mildred I. (nee' Degler) Swope.
A 1962 graduate of Conrad Weiser High School, she has served as President of the Class Reunion Committee since 1967. She was a member of Zion United Church of Christ, Womelsdorf, where she had served as a past VP of the Consistory, Consistory Deacon, President of Mothers Class, President of the Youth Fellowship and Youth Fellowship Leader, and Sunday School leader.
Linda served on the 200th and 250th Womelsdorf Anniversary Committees; was past President of the Womelsdorf Swimming Pool Assn.; was a member and President of the former Womelsdorf Jaycees Women; was a member and past President of the Womelsdorf Women of Today, the PA Women of Today, and the US Women of Today.
Linda loved her church and her community.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Melissa A. (Michael) Rogers, Wyomissing; by her siblings, Ray E. (Geraldine) Swope Jr. and Cindy L. (Paul) Hopple; and by four grandchildren: Bradlee Line, Marcus Line, Ashley Rogers, and Jessica Rogers; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, August 5, 2017, at 11 a.m. from Zion UCC, 12 S. 2nd St., Womelsdorf, PA 19567, with Melissa A. Burkhart, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Womelsdorf Union Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call Friday, August 4, 2017, from 4 - 8 p.m. and Saturday, from 10 a.m. until time of service at the church. The Mull Funeral Home, Womelsdorf is in charge of arrangements.
