• Notes

  Note, in the past it was said Margaret was the name of Johann's wife. However, that could not be duplicated. All of the records lead to Anna Barbara Knouf —she was called Barbara and her maiden name was Americanized to "Neff" —however, she was married when she arrived in America, the same year as her husband. Note: there are public trees and sites which list Schaeffer as her maiden name. Some send me Barbara and some send Margaret Schaeffer or Schaffener. I have yet to see any actual paper trails to support this (actual records). If you can share I will consider those but the paper trail I see says Knoef/Neff. About 40 years ago a man (in person) at a research library said Margaret was her name —-the Margaret born in 1710 would be too young to have children born in 1720, 1723. b. 1703 Baptism: Anna Barbara Knouf Gender: Female Baptism Date: 26.
