"F. S. Bear Dies, Was 64, Veteran Of 2 Conflicts.
Frederick S. Bear, sixty-four, 440 Poplar St., a veteran of both World Wars and an active member of local veteran's organizations, died at 7:30 p. m. yesterday at his home, after an illness of three months.
A chief warrant officer in World War II, he was a Past Commander of Lancaster Post 34, American Legion, and a Past Chef de Gare, Voiture 40 et 8. He also held membership in Garden Spot Post 1690, Veterans of Foreign Wars.
BAND CONDUCTOR
An active musician in his earlier years, Bear was known locally as conductor of the former 103rd Medical Regiment Band and leader of the American Legion Post 34 band. He held membership in Local 994, American Federation of Musicians (AFL).
A member of the First Reformed Church, he had been employed for the past 12 years by De Walt, Inc.
He was a member of Harrisburg Consistory, Lancaster Lodge of Perfection 476 and Lamberton Lodge, F&AM. He also held membership in the Tall Cedars of Lebanon, where he was a Past Grand Tall Cedar, and was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie 84.
Born in Manheim, he was a son of the late John C. and Elizabeth Lercher Bear. He was the husband of Mrs. Dorothy DeVerter Bear and a Lancaster resident all his life.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Pfc. James Edward Bear, U. S. Marine Corps, Portsmouth, N. H."
NOTE: James E. Bear (memorial #174473081) was the adopted son of Col. Fred S and Etta M Frankhouser Bear.
