• Notes

  On the 25th of March1865, at Sterling, Ill., of Typhoid fever, from which he suffered only a short time, Elias Snavely, aged 44 years, 11 months and 25 days. He was a Deacon in the Mennonite Church, and leaves a wife and two children to mourn their loss. His remains were consigned to the grave on the 27th, in the presence of a large concourse of friends and relatives. A funeral discourse was preached by Bro. Benj. Hershey from 2 Cor. 5:1-10. "Go watch and pray, thou canst not tell How near the hour of death may be; Thou canst not- know how soon the bell May toll its doleful notes for thee; Death's countless snares beset thy way, Frail child of dust, go watch and pray."
