- Richard H. Hassler, 85, formerly of Robesonia, passed away on Monday, July 10, 2017 at StoneRidge Poplar Run in Myerstown. He was the husband of Joyce E. (Henne) Hassler.
He was born in Host, Tulpehocken Twp., on June 15, 1932, a son of the late Ella S. (Reedy) and Richard Hassler, Jr.
He was a 1950 graduate of Marion Twp. High School and served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955. He last worked and retired from Conrad Weiser High School Maintenance Department, where he also was a Bus Driver. Prior to that he worked at Quaker Alloy in Myerstown, Reading Alloys in Robesonia, and at A.W.I. in Robesonia.
He was a member of St. Daniel's Lutheran Church where he served on the Building Committee and Church Council. He was also a member of the Shartlesville Lions Club, Williamson Lodge #307 F.&A.M., Womelsdorf, Rajah Shrine, Scottish Rite, Patriotic Order of Sons of America, Marion Twp. High School Alumni Association, Northkill Hunting Club, Appalachian Snowmobile Club, Die Dolpehock Sanger Chor, and was a board member and served as past president of the Berks County Pennsylvania German Fersommling.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, is a daughter, Suzanne K., wife of Terry Ellefson; two brothers, Martin J. Hassler, husband of Marlene, and Carl K. Hassler, husband of Dawn; a sister, Betty, wife of Larry Bashore; five grandchildren, Shawn, Amanda, Justin, Jeremy, and Ashley; and six great-grandchildren, Emily, Seth, Tyler, Ella, Ava, and Charlotte. He was also predeceased by a son, Scott R. Hassler in 1995; a daughter, Sandra J. Herbine in 2006; and a brother, William Hassler.
A Celebration of Life Services will be held on Monday, July 17, 2017 at 11 a.m. at St. Daniel's Lutheran Church, Robesonia, with the Rev. Rebecca Knox officiating. A Masonic Service conducted by Williamson Lodge will be held on Monday at 9:15 a.m. at St. Daniel's Lutheran Church, followed by a viewing from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Interment with military honors will follow at Heidelberg Cemetery, Robesonia. Lamm & Witman Funeral Home, Inc., Wernersville, is handling arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Daniel's Lutheran Church, 480 Big Spring Rd., Robesonia, PA 19551.
