• Notes

  William Frederick Philip Davis was born in Paradise Township, York County, PA. He prepared for college at they York [PA] County Academy. He graduated from Franklin and Marshall College, Lancaster, PA and from the Theological Seminary at Mercersburg, PA in 1863. He was ordained as a minister in the German Reformed Church in New Oxford, PA in that same year. He served the Abbottstown and New Oxford Charge until 1872 when he accepted a call to the Sinking Spring Charge, near Reading, PA which his great uncle Rev. Charles Augustus Pauli had just vacated. W. F. P. Davis served there until his death in 1883. ["History and Genealogy of the Von Der Sloot Family" Lewis Vandersloot, 1901, p. 52] Rev. Davis married Ellen E. Myers of York, PA on October 22, 1863. They had ten children and five were still living in 1900. Their known children are: Nevin, Louise Wilson, Paul B., John, Martha and Helen G. Davis.
