- Joel L. Yingst, 58, of Ephrata, was called to his heavenly home, early Monday morning, June 11, 2018 at Penn Hospice at Rittenhouse in Philadelphia. It was after a courageous 4 month battle with a rare form of sinus cancer. He was the loving husband of Susan M. (Fern) Yingst. They were married on May 5, 2005.
Joel was a graduate of Cocalico High School. He continued his education through Thaddeus Stevens State School of Technology and Ohio Institute of Technology, acquiring a Bachelors Degree. For the last 31 years, he worked as a Field Engineer for the Eastman Kodak Company, headquartered in Rochester, NY.
Born December 30, 1959, in Lebanon, he was the son of the late Lewis I. and Ruth Naomi (Bennetch) Yingst and was of the Christian faith. He was an avid model train collector, especially Lionel Trains. Joel was a technology enthusiast, anxious to acquire every new gadget or gizmo. He was the "go-to" guy for EVERYONE'S tech needs, enjoying every minute. Joel loved all types of music, playing Texas Hold 'Em poker, travelling to train & computer shows and vacationing in Myrtle Beach. He was known for his love of spicy food and always had a bottle of hot sauce nearby. Joel's big-hearted kindness and love were given freely and unconditionally. He will be missed more than words can express.
Also surviving is his daughter, Tahlia (Yingst) Brunner, wife of Jason Brunner, of St. Cloud, FL; two step-daughters, Jane Rosewall of Quarryville and Laura Rosewall of Manheim; 3 grandchildren, Arianna Yingst, Ashlyn and Jackson Brunner; 2 step-grandchildren, Richie and Danielle Dommel, and two brothers; James O. Yingst, married to Carmen, of Hemet, CA and John A. Yingst, married to Patsy, of Millsboro, DE. He is also survived by an aunt and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Joel was also preceded in death by two daughters; Bonnie Sue Yingst (2001) and Mijou Joelle Yingst (infant 1984).
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral from the Andrew T. Scheid Funeral Home-Sullivan Home, 121 South Prince Street, Lancaster, PA 17603 (on-site parking with attendants) on Saturday morning, June 16, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. There will be viewings held at the Andrew T. Scheid Funeral Home-Sullivan Home, Lancaster on Friday evening between 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. and also on Saturday morning between 9:00 -10:00 a.m. Interment will be held in the Millersville Mennonite Cemetery, Millersville, PA. In lieu of flowers, continue Joel's legacy and do acts of kindness for others.
