- 24 May 2009: Norman E. Houser, 84, formerly of State College, passed away Friday, May 22, 2009, at the Hollidaysburg Veterans Nursing Home. Born on May 20, 1925, in Bellefonte, he was the son of the late Jacob Ellery Houser and Mary Marie King Houser. On June 10, 1945, in Bellefonte, he married Lois Marie Fishburn Houser, who preceded him in death on Jan. 2, 2001. On Feb. 14, 2004, he married Josephine Rumberger Moore, who survives at home. He was a 1943 graduate of the Bellefonte Area High School and also a graduate of the Williamsport Technical Institute. Norman retired in 1989, having worked 43 years at Cerro Copper as a tool-die-maker. He had been a member of Faith United Methodist Church, Bellefonte. Currently, he was a member of Mount Nittany United Methodist Church, Lemont. Norman was a veteran who served in the U.S. Navy. For his services, he received the Victory Medal. Norman was a life member of the V.F.W. Post# 1600 and a life member of the Undine Fire Company, Bellefonte. He was a member of Retirees Bowling League, Bellefonte Lanes and PSU Golf Club, State College. He was an avid hunter and found great enjoyment at hunting camp. Norman is survived by one daughter: Susan Marie Miller and her husband, Raymond, of Bellefonte, and children, Scott and Jerrod; three sons: Richard Allen Houser and his wife, Sherrie, of Manheim, Pa.,and children, Bryan, Eric, Jason and Rhiannon, and children, Owen and Mya; James Edward and his wife, Della, of Etters, Pa., and children, Shannon and Ash, Alison and Chris; and David William and his wife, Teri, of Deland, Fla., and children, Kelsey, Alec, Joelle and Jake. Norman is also survived bya sister, Sandra Jean Gardner, of Howard. In addition to his parents and first wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Pauline Houser Milton, of Valley View. Friends will be received on Tuesday, May 26, 2009, from 9 to 11 a.m., the time of the service, at the Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc., Bellefonte. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 26, 2009, at 11 a.m., at the funeral home, with the Rev. Howard Woodruff officiating. Burial will follow in Meyer Cemetery, Benner Township.
