  Big Timber Pioneer, July 18, 1946 Mrs. Ida Shipton died Friday, July 12, 1946, in this city, at the home of her son Clarence, where she had been cared for through a long illness due to the infirmities of her years. She was 81 years; five months and three days of age. Lowry's had charge of funeral services held Monday afternoon from the Evangelical church. The Rev. Eugene Schneider, Congregational minister, delivered the sermon. Mrs. Mervin Sell played the organ accompaniment for Mrs. A. Ronad McDonnell and Mrs. Ted C. Busha to sing "In the Garden" and "Face to Face". Harold Boe, W. K. Amery, Ross G. Williams, E. J. Husebye, S. H. Nicholson, and Jake Plaggerman placed the casket in Mountain View beside the grave of her husband, Thomas G. Shipton, who died April 28, 1928. Ida M. Hills was born Feb. 9, 1865, in Fayette county, Iowa. She married Thomas G. Shipton there Nov. 22, 1884. In the spring of 1885, they came to Montan, settling on a place on Boulder river three miles below Natural bridge. The family moved into Big Timber in 1896, this place being their home ever since. Surviving are four sons; Dan K Shipton, Missoula, Mont.; Alvin B Shipton, McIntyre, Iowa; Harry D. and Clarence F. Shipton, Big Timber. a daughter died 48 years ago.
