- Son of Lydia Lewis (daughter of Mary and Ralph Lewis; born 1683 Wales–died 1763 Pennsylvania) and Joseph Sharples (son of Jane Moor and John Sharples, who immigrated from Cheshire, England to Delaware County, Pennsylvania; born 1678 England–died 1757, Middletown, Delaware County, PA). He was born 7 mo 8, 1707, in Nether Providence Twp, and died 1 mo 4, 1769, in Middletown Twp. He married Mary Pyle at Concord Friends Mtg on 4 mo 19, 1740.
His parents conveyed to their oldest son, Joseph, a messuage or tenement and two tracts of land in Middletown in August 1734. One tract consisted of 60 acres and the other was 100 acres. In February 1739, Joseph conveyed part of the 60 acres to his brother Samuel. Joseph died intestate.
