- Jesse Lee Otstott, 77, Independence, died Jan. 20, 1989, at the Independence Regional Health Center. He was born in Athens, Ill., and lived in Prescott and Tribune in Kansas before moving to this area in 1983. Mr. Otstott was a station agent for the Missouri Pacific Railroad from 1938 until he retired in 1973. He was a member of the Transportation Communications Union, the National Association of Retired and Veteran Railroad Employees, Optimist International and the Telegraphers Club. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Independence. Survivors include his wife, Julia Otstott of the home, a son, Richard Eugene Otstott, a stepson Robert G. Martin, and a daughter, Sammie Lee Buford, both of Independence, three stepdaughters, Julia Anna Adams, Hamilton, Ga., and Jane Dominick and Virginia Seger of Independence; two brothers, Charles Otstott, Shreveport, La., and Marion Otstott, Tribune; four sisters, Ruth Arnold, Ness City, Kan., Audrey Haney and Mary McDowell of Pratt, Kan., and Blossom Bannit, Red Wing, Minn., four grandchildren: 10 stepgranchildren; four great-grandchildren; and three step great-grandchildren. Cremation, with burial in Tribune Cemetery. The rosary will be said at 8 p.m. Monday at the church.
