  An Omaha couple, Mr. and Mrs. Laird I. Potter, both 61, lost their lives Monday morning in the collision of their car and an empty auto transport truck on U.S. 73-75, eight miles north of Aurburn. County Sheriff George Kelly said the Potter car was traveling north and rounding a curve when Potter apparently lost control of the vehicle. The sheriff said the southbound truck jacknifed off the road as the driver, Gale W. Lenox, 35, of Kansas City, Mo., attempted to avoid a collision with the Potter car. The truck driver escaped injury. It was raining at the time of the accident. Sheriff Kelly reported, Mrs. Potter was decapitated in the collision. -- Lincoln Star. The Potters were enroute home from Kansas City where they had visited their daughter. Mr. Potter was employed by the Fuchs Machine Co. Both Mr. and Mrs. Potter were former residents of Hardy and also Red Cloud. Mrs. Potter was the former Mildred Gillilan, a cousin of Loy Davidson of Nelson. The Nelson Gazette, Thursday, May 16, 1957
