- Raymond "Dale" Richey, 73, of Ashland died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2011, at Kingston of Ashland.
Born June 15, 1937, in Ashland, he was the son of Donald S. and Vivian M. (Tucker) Richey. During his teenage years, Dale began working at Clair R. Richey & Sons Celery Farm and went on to serve six years as an Army Reservist. He enjoyed working with motors, troubleshooting automotive problems, and went to work for his father-in-law, Bud Conway, at Conway Auto Service. After Mr. Conway retired, Dale took over the business and renamed it Dale's Auto Service.
He was also an adviser at the vocational school in the automotive department. Dale was a member of Goldwing Chapter B, Ashland Rifle Club, Independent Garage Owners Association and a lifetime member of the Elks. He enjoyed western square dancing, photography, target shooting and woodworking, building furniture and gifts for family and friends. Dale was an avid reader, especially mystery stories. Most of all, he loved his family.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Patricia (Conway) Richey of Ashland; daughters, Pam (Randy) Burson of Perrysville and Cathy (Woody) Craig of Crestline; grandchildren, Randy L. II, Tucker, and Wesley Burson, Amanda Mulvane, and Josh and Lindsay Craig; three great-grandchildren; brother, Richard (Sandy) Richey; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his in-laws, Bud and Helen Conway.
Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2011, at Ashland Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 308 Claremont Ave., Ashland.
A funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 10, 2011, at the funeral home by the Rev. Dan Bilkert and the Rev. Thomas Zuercher.
There will also be an hour of calling prior to the service, 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 10, 2011, at the funeral home.
Private burial will follow in Nankin Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association or Hospice of North Central Ohio.
